Sunday School: Behind the Scenes

There are numerous opportunities to be involved in Sunday School behind the scenes, from serving as a registrar to mentoring teachers.

Bulletin Boards

There is a hall bulletin board upstairs plus a bulletin board in each classroom. Each bulletin board person or team is responsible for one (or two similar) boards. These can be done at home or at church about once a month.

Special Events Coordinator(s)

This person, couple or team would be part of a committee for planning special events such as “kick off” Sunday, TeacherFest, Advent, Lent, Palm Sunday, Easter, plus whenever the Spirit moves us. It may include decorating the chapel, preparing gifts to be given out, or gathering props for a dramatic presentation. Can usually be done on your schedule.

Registrar(s)

This job is active in August/September when we register the children. Registrar(s) helps parents register, checks registration cards and makes attendance sheets. A team could divide up responsibilities.

Visitor Welcomer

All visitors fill out a Visitor Card each Sunday. The welcomer will send a postcard after someone's first visit and place a welcoming phone call after their second visit. This is a nice job for someone to do at home.

Mentoring Teachers

We’re looking for teachers who are willing to model teaching techniques for new volunteers who ask to be placed with a mentor. While both people will work with children on Sunday morning, the helpful discussions about teaching would take place at other times just between these two.

Birthday Card Sender

Someone is needed to send birthday cards to Sunday School children. We give you postcards that need to be signed, a list of students by birthday and stamps. You can fill out a month at a time and mail from home on the appropriate day (or give to church office to mail when you’ll be gone). This job is easily done at home.

Purchaser

If you’re willing to shop for regular supplies or special items on an irregular basis, we’ll pay for them.
