Adult Spirituality and Education
First Presbyterian Church of Champaign offers a variety of ministries for all. Our congregational ministries address the concerns of our members, while our local and world missions remind us that we must continue to look outside ourselves.
We are a strong community of believers. We believe that small group Bible studies promote fellowship and strengthen the body of Christ. We understand that not everyone is comfortable within a small group, so we also offer larger seminars as well.
Our Purpose
As the great commandment is retold by Jesus in Matthew 22:37: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” We, then, are called to be a caring, faithful and thinking people.
Our course catalog Spiritual Journey offers many different opportunities for growth. First Presbyterian Church encourages each of our members to grow in Christ by making a short-term commitment to study.
Current Opportunities Include:
Small-group Bible studies
Community Bible Study (CBS)
Pastor-led condensed classes
C-groups (small groups of caring with Christ at the center)
Spiritual Pathways Used For Our Classes:
Bible Study: Courses that acquaint participants with the content of the Old and New Testaments, the history of the development of the Bible as we know it and the tools to study and interpret it.
Christian Community (C-groups): Small groups which meet weekly, for a specified number of weeks, using curriculum by trained leaders. C-groups are built upon the four pillars of biblical equipping, prayer, community building, and mission.
Christian Living: Courses that equip us to live out our faith in our daily lives, in practical ways.
History and Theology: Courses that acquaint participants with the history and development of the church and/or the roots of our beliefs and traditions.
