High School
Our Purpose
To reach high school students and lead them to be fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
Our Vision
- Reveal the truth of Jesus Christ to this broken world.
- Relinquish our lives to the real, living God and seek His will for our lives.
- Develop more intimate relationships with Jesus Christ.
- Grow in our relationships with others in a Christ-centered community through worship, prayer and small groups.
How We Live Out Our Vision
High School Sunday
A youth service allows the young people to use their gifts and abilities in the leading of a worship experience that involves the community of believers. It is a way of giving and experiencing their faith. Being "in charge" of the worship service gives students an opportunity to look at what they do each Sunday as they participate in worship. This service gives adult leaders in the church an opportunity to say to the youth that they are important, that we have confidence in them, and that they have something significant to offer to the body of Christ.
Sunday Night Youth Club
SNYC (Sunday Night Youth Club), from 5:30-8 pm on Sunday nights in Centennial Hall and the Youth Lounge. It is an evening of fellowship with students from the various area high schools. Join us for dinner and worship (which is shared with the middle school students), games, prayer and share, fellowship and discussions on a variety of topics central to contemporary life and faith.
We have small groups of students and adult sponsors for the purpose of knowing God and peers in a small, intimate setting, growing deeper in our faith, and providing accountability for our choices. These groups are encouraged to meet throughout the week. Contact the church office to sign up.
Go & Serve
Go & Serve is the annual mission trip for high school ministries. Its purpose is based on Jesus' words in John 12:26, "Whoever serves me must follow me and where I am, there will my servant be also. Whoever serves me, the Father will honor." Go & Serve provides a work experience in which students serve others in need, outside Champaign County, through hands-on work and Christian fellowship. Many times the high school group does construction projects, works in food banks, and provides daycare and day camps to those in need. Past Go & Serve trips have brought students to places like Memphis, TN (2008), Moss Point, MS (2007), Texas, North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, New Mexico, Colorado, Montana, Alaska and even as far away as Honduras.
SALT
SALT is the Spiritual Action Leadership Team. This group of sophomores to seniors provides the spiritual leadership for the ministry. This highly committed group of students meets twice monthly for prayer, Bible study and team work. Each student pledges to put this as a top commitment in his/her daily life.
Special Events
Special Events take place throughout the year for the purposes of mission, fellowship, fund-raising and faith development The Fall/Spring retreats, Christmas cookie bake-a-thon, Christmas party, ski retreat and High School Sunday are just a few of the events planned for this year. There is usually at least one special event a month during the school year.
Sunday School
The high school students meet from 9-10 am usually off-campus, at a coffee shop or restaurant. A carpool can be set up to leave from the Downtown Campus at 9 am, call the office if you need a ride. The format is a loose discussion led by an adult leader, but directed by student's interests and concerns.
We have a website where you can see upcoming events, past Go & Serve trips, pictures, a daily devotional and much more! http://www.cusnyc.com
