Prayer

Our greatest hope is that First Presbyterian Church Champaign will become a house of prayer. We invite you to share in this ministry by praying for others and sharing your own joys and concerns. Prayer seems like such a small thing to do, but that is not what Jesus said. To Him prayer is everything; it’s a duty as well as a privilege, a right as well as a responsibility. We tend to use it as a last resort, but Jesus wants it to be our first line of defense. The job of every Christian is to pray.

Submit a Prayer Request.

Prayer Ministry Team

The Prayer Ministry Team meets once a month to pray for the church, organize events for all to experience prayer and find ways to support and encourage the prayer life of this congregation. If you are interested in learning more about this team or prayer opportunities, email the Prayer Ministry Team.

Intercessory Teams

FirstChurch has two intercessory teams that pray for the church and the personal prayers that are submitted through the Prayer Request Cards. We invite you to join one of the teams or begin a new team. For more information email the Prayer Ministry Team.

Prayer Cards

You may request prayer by completing a Prayer Request Card which can be found on the back of the pews. Request cards are shared with the entire staff and prayer teams, while cards marked “confidential” are given to pastoral staff only. To assure this confidentiality, you may personally hand your request to the pastor.

Prayer Chain

To submit a prayer request for the Prayer Chain, call the church office 217.356.7238 and ask for your request to be submitted to the Prayer Chain. A group of Presbyterian Women will pray for your request.

Prayer Corner

You are invited to experience the comfort of having a member of the Prayer Ministry Team pray for or with you. Please come to the prayer corner (next to the grand piano) after any morning worship service.

June Newsletter Prayer Corner "Prayer Lifeline"

"Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers...It's wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life."  Philippians 4:6-7 "The Message"

Who needs a prayer lifeline?  All of us who live in this world of tribulation need the peace that comes from prayer and overcomes anxiety.  Philippians 4:6-9

Prayer keeps us from sinking under troubles when we:

  • Go to our Sovereign God in adoration, sharing all concerns and thanking him for his presence and trustworty care.  1 Timothy 2:1-2
  • Receive the inner tranquility given by God and trust Christ to keep our feelings and thoughts from creating anxiety.  John 16:33
  • Fill our minds and hearts with God's word to give right thoughts and then put these thoughts into action through right living.  Philippians 4:8-9

When through prayer and the Bible we yield our minds and hearts to Christ like thoughts and actions, we find peaceful confidence that trusts the love, wisdom and power of God to be working for our good in all circumstances.  Romans 8:28

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, I am tired of being blind sided by anxiety and am ready to let you have control.  I give you my concerns and thank you for your care.  In Jesus' name, Amen.
