SAFE House
The mission of the SAFE House is to provide a “substance abuse free environment” (SAFE) in which a person can be delivered from the throes of alcohol and drug abuse by a rigorous re-parenting process and by instilling a spiritual foundation to break the cycle of addiction. The philosophy of the program is based on the premise that an inadequate spiritual condition is one of the fundamental causes of addiction. Co-founded by our church and Canaan Baptist Church, Urbana 11 years ago, the SAFE house provides a rigorous, highly successful, 12-month residential drug recovery program for men. Each day the 10 residents attend chapel, prayer services, classes, work projects, and studies. The men come to know Christ in a new way and understand that there is a place for them in God’s world without the need for dependencies, such as drugs. Through this knowledge and the program, the men are prepared to return to society as supporting husbands, fathers, and contributors to the community.
