Stratton Partnership

Stratton Elementary School has become a rising star within our community during the past four years of our partnership with them. From a school that was failing to meet minimal standards in many areas, it is now receiving awards of excellence. To say that our partnership may have been a deciding factor would be a stretch, but through the efforts of the excellent administration, professional staff, innovative curriculum and help from the community, it is now a school of choice with many parents. Our volunteers help the teachers in the classroom, in tutoring, in mentoring, and in a unique program called the Investigative Learning Hour. As the program develops, there will be opportunities for expansion. Currently, Investigative Learning Hour activities are enrichment subjects taught five days a week for a quarter. The subjects are limited, though, to areas in which the professional staff have experiences. Principal Duckworth welcomes the opportunity to expand the subject areas that an experienced church volunteer might offer to teach for a quarter. Results, so far, are very positive as the school administration is matching their needs with the wishes and available time of each of our volunteers.
